Position Description
Punahou's Summer Programs offers a variety of classes in academics, sports, music and art to name a few. With various courses offered to students in kindergarten – grade 12, the opportunities during Punahou Summer Programs seem endless. The Summer Teaching Aide Program is designed to provide opportunities to gain experience and mentoring in a school setting for high school and college students contemplating careers in education. Summer Teaching Aides are respected professionals and add value to every program they support. During the summer, Teaching Aides play a vital role in creating a supportive learning environment for students. Teaching Aides provide assistance to lead teachers, facilitate daily activities and supervise students. When applying, applicants should indicate all areas of interest for which you would consider. All new hires are required to be on island 1 week prior to the start of Orientation to complete required paperwork.
Afternoon Enrichment Program
The Afternoon Enrichment program provides afternoon supervision for students in grades K - 5. The program begins with lunch and throughout the afternoon students participate in a variety of age appropriate classes and activities. The TAs are essential members of the Afternoon Enrichment team as they support lunch distribution, provide additional supervision and transition support to all students in and out of the classrooms as well as escort students to and from their afternoon music and dance classes.
Middle School Supervision
The Middle School Supervision program provides a comfortable space for students in grades 6-8 to wait while they wait for their afternoon classes, lessons, sports practices or parents. TAs provide additional supervision to students enrolled in the MSS spaces as well as in outdoor play areas such as the basketball courts.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 1.5 Months
- School Year: Summer School 2026, June 15 – July 17
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday, Hours may vary depending on course 11:30AM – 5:30PM
- Hourly Rate: $16.00/Hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Possesses a respectful, responsible and resourceful disposition with a willingness and ability to improve based on feedback from the instructors.
- Serves as an ambassador for the school to families and in the community.
- Fosters an environment in which students feel safe to investigate curriculum, discover the world in which they live and learn about themselves.
- Effectively and appropriately communicates with peers, faculty, students, and parents and engages in positive collaboration with colleagues.
- Assists in the set-up and take-down of the classroom and preparation of classroom materials.
- Provides classroom support to the instructors.
- Experience working with younger children is preferred.
- Must attend Mandatory Orientation Period: June 8 – 12, 2026.
