Position Description
Founded at Punahou School in 2005, the Partnerships in Unlimited Educational Opportunities (PUEO) Program embodies Punahou’s commitment to being a private school serving a larger public purpose through a partnership with the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE). HIDOE elementary school principals and counselors nominate scholars who are in the middle of their academic class, eligible for free or reduced lunch, and first in their families to graduate from a 4-year college. Nominated scholars join the program in Grade 4 and continue as a cohort for nine years, returning each summer for five weeks of programming at Punahou, along with a series of school-year events that support their holistic, college-preparatory journey.
PUEO is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and compassionate Administrative Assistant to provide diversified administrative support and project assistance to the PUEO administrative team. This pivotal role requires an individual with outstanding administrative abilities and excellent communication, organization, time management, planning, problem-solving, and customer service skills. As PUEO continues to evolve, your contributions will be key to the seamless execution of our mission and the critical support of our faculty and students. The ideal candidate would exhibit a deep care for educational equity and belief in the transformative power of education to create opportunities for underserved students. Essential duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Administrative and Communication Support
- Serve as a point of contact for the PUEO Program; answer phones, greet visitors, and respond to inquiries from families, scholars, and community partners in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Compose, edit, and distribute correspondence, communications, mail outs for the program.
- Respond to family emails and communications.
- Maintain accurate and confidential rosters, scholar records, databases, and documentation.
- Manage program supplies and maintain an up to date tracking system.
- Manage and organize paperwork, digital files, and program materials to ensure efficient information flow.
Program and Project Coordination
- Serve as a key member of the administrative team, collaborating proactively to develop and implement strategies that advance program goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with other school departments to support program operations, school year events, and the summer program.
- Play a key role in school year events & summer program. This includes:
- Supporting the nomination process with HIDOE partner schools
Coordinating transportation logistics for scholars during program sessions
Leading the annual registration process
Provide administrative and logistical support for school-year events and summer programming where needed.
Student and Team Support
- Monitor and communicate daily attendance, snack, and lunch count details during the summer program.
- Communicate with teachers regarding scholar absences and early releases to ensure accurate attendance records and smooth program operations.
- Collaborate with the administrative team to determine if a student can be assisted in the office or must be sent to the Health Center.
- Supervise student workers, delegating tasks and providing guidance.
Scheduling Details:
- Work Year: 12 month
- Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Must be flexible to work beyond scheduled hours and/or weekends as needed.
- Minimum Hourly Rate*: $23.00/Hour - Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Two (2) years recent administrative experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar.
- Experience working in a school environment preferred.
- Knowledge of the Hawai‘i Department of Education (HIDOE) systems and structures preferred.
