What will I be doing?

The Benefits Coordinator is an integral part of the Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging, which helps serve older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities throughout a 12-county region in the following ways:

ü  Provide assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through counseling, education, and outreach efforts.

ü  Deliver presentations, conduct enrollment events, and attend health fairs.

ü  Provide benefits counseling assistance to clients:

o   Assist Medicare beneficiaries, primarily through telephone inquiry, make informed decisions about their healthcare coverage by providing accurate, unbiased, and confidential information about Medicare coverage options, preventative benefits, and available assistance programs.

o   Provide Legal Assistance counseling

ü Lead volunteer engagement efforts including:

o   Developing recruiting strategies

o   Coordinating volunteer screening

o   Providing training and onboarding activities for volunteers

o   Mediating volunteer issues and providing technical assistance where needed

o   Overseeing volunteer data management

o   Coordinating volunteer appreciation activities

ü Support the completion of required reports to funder.

 

Key Qualifications

ü  Knowledge of Human Services programs, legislation, and regulations.

ü  Ability to travel locally on a regular basis

ü  Skilled in public speaking

ü  Collaborative and able to build strong relationships

ü  Maintain certification, with a minimum certification in HICAP I

Do you have…  

ü Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study   

ü 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties
