Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the payroll specialist is responsible for processing weekly payroll, including involuntary deductions and accounting transactions, file maintenance and record retention, while ensuring alignment with Graniterock’s Family Vision, Core Purpose, Core Values, Strategic priorities, and business objectives.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Comply, understand, and promote safety initiatives to ensure “Safety Before All Else.”
- Facilitate the weekly payroll process, including manual time entry, reviewing edits, printing checks, and posting journal entries to issue accurate payments to Team Members.
- Reconcile and process information received from the weekly payroll groups. Post weekly time entry to ensure accuracy for weekly payroll processing.
- Analyze payroll reports and participate in regular audits for accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
- Work with Human Resources to review CBA contract changes to ensure changes are accurately reflected in time entry
- Provide general information, answer all employee, and field inquiries in an informed and courteous manner to exceed customer expectations.
- Process a variety of system and administrative tasks to assist department and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Meet weekly and monthly processing deadlines and issue interim checks to ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
Education and Work Experience
- Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant work experience
- · 2-5 years of related Payroll experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Moderate technical knowledge of commonly-used payroll concepts, practices, and procedures
- Intermediate Excel and Word skills
- 10-key by touch
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Superior customer service skills
- Ability to work overtime as needed
