Job Summary
This position is responsible for the overall direction, completion, and financial outcome of both public and private construction projects up to $15 million in size and ensuring alignment with Graniterock’s Family Vision, Core Purpose, Core Values, Strategic priorities and business objectives.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Comply, understand, and promote corporate and division safety initiatives to ensure “Safety before All Else.”
- FINANCIAL – Review daily/weekly/monthly cost reports for accuracy and perform financial forecasts to identify potential issues or challenges. Lead the project team to identify solutions, mitigate risks, and to grow the skills & performance of the project team to deliver results meeting the financial goals. Critical project measurables including but are not limited to: maintaining bid day margin, minimizing under-billings, holding owner and subcontractors accountable to the payment terms of the contract.
- OPERATIONAL – Overall management of day-to-day project operations. Ensure operational project tasks are completed efficiently and correctly. Examples include but are not limited to: updating resource schedules, updating CPM project schedules, performing quantity take-offs, assisting with material orders, and working with project teams to develop work plans in alignment with safety & quality requirements and financial & scheduling goals.
- TALENT MENTORING & DEVELOPMENT – After the hiring of Team Members, lead the development of people at all levels of Graniterock. Hold people accountable for performance and utilize Graniterock systems to remove poor performers and reward excellence. Grow Team Member’s business context, knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure a viable organization prepared for growth and accountability.
- CONTRACTUAL – Ensure Graniterock is operating in compliance with all contract documents on assigned projects. Notify the customer of changed conditions or added work that affects project cost or schedule. Pursue successful completion of all project issues.
- ADMINISTRATIVE – Ensure administrative project tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Examples include but are not limited to: reviewing/approving time cards, submittals, RFI’s, owner/subcontractor correspondence, quantity tracking, maintaining as-built drawings, T&M tags, vendor invoices, subcontractor pay applications, and owner progress payment requests.
- CUSTOMER SERVICE – Represent the company, project, or department during client and project meetings to ensure effective communication. Build constructive working relationships with project stakeholders, customers and subcontractors. Leverage these relationships in a legal and ethical manner.
- Interface with other projects and parts of the company to achieve the overall best results.
- Work close with estimating team to develop project bids.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field, or extensive project management experience.
- Must have 5+ years progressive project experience in civil construction.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of construction paving, underground, concrete and grading practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of union agreements and prevailing wage issues.
- Maintain ability to work in high production environment.
- Demonstrated decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Excellent supervisory communication and organizational skills.
