The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a highly organized and experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Occupational Health Clinic. This role plays a critical part in supporting workplace health and wellness, ensuring compliance with occupational health standards, and oversee medical assistants to maintain an efficient and effective clinic operation.

As an LPN in our Occupational Health Clinic, you will be responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, supporting occupational health programs, and ensuring that employees receive high-quality care during pre-employment physicals, medical surveillance, and return-to-work evaluations. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to establish rapport with employees while ensuring accountability for follow-ups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee medical assistants to ensure smooth clinic operations and high-quality patient care.
  • Oversee and maintain an efficient and compliant laboratory, ensuring adherence to occupational health protocols.
  • Conduct and assist with occupational health physicals, return-to-work evaluations, and medical surveillance programs for employees.
  • Administer vaccinations, drug screenings, and diagnostic testing in compliance with occupational health standards.
  • Monitor and track work-related and non-work-related medical cases to support employees' safe return to duty.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of employee health assessments, treatments, and interventions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, registered nurses, and HR to ensure proper case management.
  • Provide counseling and health education to employees regarding workplace wellness and injury prevention.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal occupational health regulations and best practices.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as needed.

**A $3,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position.  Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0. 

  • $500 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
  • $1,000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
  • $1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Possession of a current and valid license issued by the State of Virginia or as a part of the Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges) as a Licensed Practical Nurse and one or more years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse to be specified by the hiring department. Current CPR certification. Must have a current and valid drivers license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Attachments Required: 

Preferences:

Experience overseeing a clinical laboratory in compliance with occupational health standards.
Knowledge of workers' compensation case management and return-to-work programs.
Familiarity with medical surveillance programs, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety compliance.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills to engage with employees and build trust while ensuring compliance.
Prior Supervisory Experience

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
