Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting three Construction Code Inspectors to join the Permits & Inspections division of the Planning & Community Development Department. This posting may be filled as a Construction Inspector I or Construction Inspector II depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. The associated pay grades are as follows:
Construction Inspector I: G.18 $39,328.30 - $60,958.87
Construction Inspector II: G.22 $47,803.80 - $74,095.89

Minimum Requirements:
Construction Inspector I Minimums: Requires High School, or GED, plus two (2) years of progressive experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Construction Inspector II Minimums: High School or GED, plus five (5) years progressive experience in fields providing the required
knowledge, skills and abilities or any equivalent combination of progressive experience and technical training which provides the necessary knowledge and experience. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.

Preferences:
Development Knowledge and Experience
Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers over the phone and in person
Professional (E&S) certifications, degrees, and/or VDOT Inspections certification
Stormwater Management Experience
Experience with Accela or similar permitting/inspection software
Site Development Experience
Special Instructions:
This position is being reopened to expand the pool of applicants. The position will remain open until vacancies are filled.
Obtain Erosion and Sedimentation (E & S) Certification as required by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) within one year of the hiring date.
Obtain Stormwater Certification as required by DEQ within 18 months of the hiring date.
