Virginia Beach Human Services is seeking to hire an Adult Psychiatrist with treatment experience across a broad range of clinical populations experiencing Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Substance Use Disorders (SUD), Co-occurring disorders, and/or Crisis for our Adult Outpatient Services program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychiatric evaluations and medication management services to clients in an outpatient setting, ensuring that treatment plans are tailored to meet the diverse needs of individuals experiencing serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, participating in clinical staffing and interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Supervise and consult with medical staff, providing guidance on complex cases and ensuring that all clinical actions are in alignment with best practices.
  • Prepare and ensure the accurate and timely submission of clinical documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, and medication orders, in compliance with Medicaid and other regulatory requirements.
  • Authorize Clinic Option Services as required by Medicaid, and oversee the submission of billing information and clinical documentation to ensure that all services are appropriately documented and billed.
  • Conduct necessary medical and psychiatric assessments, including lab tests and other diagnostics, to support clinical decision-making and patient care.
  • Provide consultation and training to nursing, clinical, and administrative staff on mental health treatment protocols, medication management, and other relevant areas.
  • Manage a patient caseload, providing comprehensive care that includes both direct treatment and the necessary documentation to support ongoing supervision and review of patient care outcomes.
  • Travel to various department locations within the City as required to perform duties and provide services.

**Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.

  • $5,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
  • $6,500 will be awarded upon completing the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
  • $8,500 will be awarded upon completing the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Licensed as a Psychiatrist in the State of Virginia, possession of a Drug Enforcement Association (DEA) Certificate with no restrictions on prescribing controlled substances. Eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid, and other third party reimbursement. Must have a current and valid driver's license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. May be required to drive to off-site meetings. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination.

Preferences:

Experience working/completing TD/clinical assessments with adults SMI/SUD population.
Experience providing counseling on medication use, health wellness, social problems, IMWP.
Experience providing consultation and training to nursing, clinical and administrative staff.
Experience maintaining clinical records in accordance with regulatory standards, including Department of Human Services, DMAS, and licensure.
Experience with State performance service provision targets.
Experience with filing clinical information and submission of billing information accurately and within required time frame.

VRS Contribution:   All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
