Job Duties:

We are seeking an individual with an interest in and knowledge of eminent domain law and litigation. This position requires solid problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills. The primary function is to perform all aspects of the eminent domain litigation process, including drafting condemnation petitions, pleadings, memoranda, and discovery, and representing the City in Virginia trial and appellate courts of record in eminent domain cases and related administrative proceedings. Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills, sharp analytical abilities, and strong research capabilities are essential. At least 5 years of experience with eminent domain litigation, jury trials, and/or expert witness examination is strongly preferred.
This position is an Associate City Attorney, with compensation depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant. The associated pay grade and range is an follows:
Associate City Attorney: A21, $94,648.30 - $146,704.87
Candidates must have active membership in good standing in the Virginia State Bar. Residency in the City of Virginia Beach is not required.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUM: Active member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar and eligibility to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia and admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Federal District Court is required for this position. However, contingent offers may be made to those who are registered to take the next scheduled Virginia Bar Exam (February or July) and pass the Exam, or those who intend to waive in for licensure in Virginia.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Special Instructions:
