The City of Virginia Beach’s Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to apply and utilize acquired knowledge in field of study.

Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student (in an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or PhD program) and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university.
Applications received will be considered for Spring and Summer internship opportunities that become available. We have a variety of departments that may offer internship opportunities in engineering, information technology, library, human resources, business, communications & media relations, as well as finance. Tasks may include working on projects, assisting with day-to-day operations, as well as attending meetings. Our interns often have the opportunity to go on site visits and meet with various stakeholders to learn how the City serves our citizens and tourists.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimums: Must be at least 15 years of age and eligible for appropriate working permits. Must be a currently enrolled student (in an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or PhD program) and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university. Special Requirements: Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings) including weekends and holidays, be available to work overtime, and work at various library locations as necessary to meet operational needs.

Please Note: The City will not provide housing or transportation for the internship opportunities.
VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
