The Role
Liberty Science Center (LSC) seeks enthusiastic customer service talent to work as a Train Conductor for LSC’s new train ride experience which will be launching just in time for the holiday season. Ideal candidates must have a DWE record—Driving While Entertaining and a valid driver’s license!

The Train Conductor Ambassadors report to the Senior Manager of Guest Experience.

What You’ll Do
The Train Conductor Ambassador is expected to do some combination of the following essential functions on a daily basis.

General

    1. Set  the standard for others by having stellar attendance, being reliable, and providing   exceptional guest engagement
    2. Be present and on time for all of your scheduled shifts
    3. Conduct work with a positive and professional attitude
    4. Contribute to a positive team-based culture
    5. Follow all LSC and departmental policies and procedures
    6. Greet and welcome guests
    7. Possess strong judgment; you make decisions that keep the guest experience in mind and know when it is appropriate to refer to a supervisor
    8. Serve as an advocate for guests while simultaneously promoting the interests of LSC, by communicating with a variety of diverse guests to ensure a positive museum experience and resolving visitors’ concerns and complaints to their satisfaction and LSC’s
    9. Oversee and monitor the condition, presentation, and safety of all public spaces/train and assist in the preparation and closing of all public spaces

    Train Responsibilities

    1. Drive a train that has one engine and four attached wagons in an indoor and outdoor setting
    2. Lead the ride, provide entertaining commentary, and ensure all passengers are seated and aware of safety guidelines
    3. Monitor the train’s operation and communicate with staff
    4. Ensure the train is clean and well-maintained before and after rides
    5. Report any issues or repairs needed to management
    6. Adapt to different audiences and settings, maintaining high energy and enthusiasm

    Gallery/Box Office Responsibilities

    1. Assist with upholding safety protocols and cleaning
    2. Cultivate a positive and enriching experience for LSC guests by playing with and engaging guests within galleries, answering questions, and presenting a thorough and accurate knowledge of all LSC offerings including exhibitions, theater shows, events, programs, etc
    3. Provide assistance with special events and programming as needed
    4. Maintain an accurate register throughout the day and successfully reconcile all on-site payments, check-ins, and ticket/voucher redemptions
    5. Accurately input data into LSC’s ticketing system (Tessitura)
    6. Provide high-quality, end-to-end care of LSC guests including online ticket purchasers, walk-up customers, and LSC members at all operational ticketing stations

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Valid driver’s license
    2. Clean driving record
    3. Minimum age requirement: 18 years

    Classification & Schedule
    All Ambassadors must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends, as business needs require.

    Ambassadors will work an average of 4 days per week. Shifts can range from 4 to 8 hours; Ambassadors usually work 16-32 hours per week on average. Ambassadors MUST have availability Wednesday through Sunday, including the availability to be scheduled some evenings (typically Wednesdays and Thursdays) and Monday holidays.

    The Train Conductor Ambassador is a regular part-time role, which is non-exempt, meaning this role is eligible for overtime for work that exceeds 40 hours per work week; however, all overtime must be approved in advance by the role’s supervisor.

    Compensation
    The Train Conductor Ambassador is compensated at a rate of $17.50/hour. Liberty Science Center also provides perks for all eligible part-time employees, including:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to drive, stand, bend/lift/stretch and walk on concrete floors. The position requires the ability to climb stairs, tolerate high levels of noise, navigate crowds, and publicly speak. Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor settings.
