Assistant Controller 

 

General Description

The Assistant Controller will be a key contributor to the financial managements of Solairus playing a pivotal leadership role in overseeing and managing various corporate accounting functions including leading a team of staff accountants in preparing accurate and timely financial statements, general ledger account reconciliations, month-end closing, tax compliance and audit deliverables. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Controller and will collaborate closely with the finance team, leadership of the client accounting and charter accounting functions as well as corporate leadership.

Essential Duties

Manage a team of Staff Accountants and Specialists responsible for Solairus Corporate Accounting functions including but not limited to:  

§  Financial Reporting

o   Ensure Compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements.

o   Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

o   Prepare monthly closing package including analytics and variance analysis.

§  Team Leadership

o   Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment

o   Facilitate regular communications and team meetings with established agendas

o   Provides vision, leadership and guidance to direct reports and departmental staff; coaches and mentors direct reports to ensure an energized, motivating work environment

o   Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals

 

§  General Ledger Management

o   Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers

o   Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations

 

§  Audit Preparation and Support

o   Coordinate and facilitate the annual audit process

o   Prepare audit schedules and ensure timely completion of audit requirements.

 

§  Analysis

o   Prepare special reports or account analysis as requested by management on an ad hoc basis.

 

o   Budgets

o   Collaborate with Finance team members and cross functional teams to provide data and assist in development of the annual budget

o   Load completed budgets in the financial system. Ensure budgets are accurately allocated by department and financial reporting formats updated

 

o   Process Improvement

o   Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency improvements

o   Implement best practices in accounting and financial operations.

o   Internal Controls

o   Develop, implement, monitor, and test key internal control procedures

o   Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures

o   Tax Compliance

o   Work closely with tax professionals to ensure timely and accurate tax filings

o   Stay updated on changes in tax regulations impacting the organization

o   Collaboration

o   Partner with Client Accounting and Charter Accounting to ensure best practices, adherence to deadlines and data accuracy.

o   Collaborate with other departments to address financial inquiries and provide support.

o   Participate in cross-functional projects as a finance representative.

 

Minimum Qualifications

1.   Education

o   Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

o   MBA or CPA designation preferred

 2.    Experience

o   Minimum of 5 years Accounting related experience. Public Accounting experience preferred.

o   Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity

o   Audit experience preferred

 

Salary Range

    • $100,000 - $120,000
