Role Summary

The Sr. R&D and Systems Engineer is responsible for leading the development of connectivity systems and New LRU designs. Deriving product requirements and by generating specifications for development from industry standards, competitive product analysis and customer requirements. As part of their responsibilities, the Sr R&D and Systems Engineer will be accountable for meeting critical program deadlines by completing design, design data, and qualification testing of new LRUs and system designs. Working with program teams on project schedules, tasks, and resource planning. Also working with the certification teams to outline the certification requirements for the system and/or LRU in the program. 

Will also manage the reliability and changes of the current system and LRU configurations out in the field. Identifying risks and mitigation plan to ensure success of our in-service units. Will help mentor lower-level engineers. This candidate shall be ambitious, hardworking, and determined to complete every task. Shall be passionate about their job and their team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determines LRU and system specification and requirements based on industry and customer specifications.
  • Will be a part of the original design of LRUs and system, working with suppliers and internal manufacturing departments.
  • Develops LRU and system supporting documentation, such as, but not limited to, outline drawings, technical specifications, qualification test procedures, schematics, qualification test reports, system requirements documents, and more.
  • Responsible for supporting and coordinating qualification testing on LRUs per DO-160 and Line Fit requirements.
  • Responsible for supporting lab integration and system integration testing.
  • Confirms and verifies product performance and reliability by designing and conducting product testing, such as HASS/HALT Testing.
  • Assists the program teams in product schedules by studying project plans and specifications, reviewing time requirements and project elements.
  • Understanding of Industry and OEM level compliance requirements 
  • Manage action as required to incorporate applicable changes that are determined to provide benefits in accordance with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Being a mentor to lower-level engineers.
  • 15-20% travel

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years' experience in working in avionics design, aviation connectivity, and/or connectivity systems design.
  • Experience in an aviation IFE/IFC company.
  • Experience in coordinating and supporting LRU qualification testing per DO-160 and OEM Requirements.
  • Experience in aircraft electronics, and aircraft structures.
  • Experience in FAA STCs, installation support, and OEM support.
  • Experience in LRU reliability, including reliability testing such as HASS/HALT Testing.
  • Understanding off FAA and OEM requirements for tech data, testing, and submittals
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Proficient in Microsoft office.
  • Technical competence in software, hardware, and network.
  • Ability to operate autonomously in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and lead others in a highly matrixed environment.

The anticipated starting salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $110,000 - $140,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as location, experience, skills, certifications…etc.
