The Position:

As Program Associate, you’ll work in Vital Strategies’ Policy, Advocacy and Communication (PAC) division; a creative, ambitious and supportive team of passionate designers, communicators and strategists who are creating products that improve health for people around the world. Our policy advocacy and strategic communication initiatives—using all forms of media including television, digital, mobile, social, radio and print—have been seen by more than 2 billion people and have changed behavior and social norms as well as influencing public health policies around the world. We also have robust public relations, editorial, social media and social science research teams and have secured thousands of mentions from global leaders, national media outlets and health specialty channels for our in-country partners, funders and government partners, as well as our own brand.

Reporting to the editorial director of the PAC division, the program associate will provide administrative support, project management and communication support to the editorial team and across PAC.

This is a non-exempt position with an hourly rate of between $25 to $29.16 (equivalent of $52,000 to $60,666) Applicants must possess valid work authorization to work in the U.S. at the time of hire.  This position will be based in our New York city office. 

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main administrator for the editorial team, tracking assignments and timelines.

  • Solicit weekly program updates from staff across programs, and draft the weekly internal e-newsletter, which is shared with all Vital Strategies’ employees; assist with other newsletters, as needed.

  • Maintain and continually update PAC files such as: training materials; photo library; and mass media campaign masters and associated documentation.

  • Maintain and update Media Beacon (a web-based repository of public service announcements on public health topics).

  • Oversee PAC team folders on Box and our Monday boards, ensuring that they remain clearly organized.

  • Write blog posts, newsletter items, talking points and other writing assignments as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Skills & Abilities - 

  • Training and experience in knowledge management or project management;

  • Demonstrated writing and editing excellence;

  • Experience responding promptly and completely to support requests;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working in international settings and/or with people of diverse cultural backgrounds;

  • Fluency in written and spoken English;

  • Fluency in another language a plus;

  • Ability to work independently and with a team;

  • Capacity to manage multiple assignments at once and to support others.

 

Experience:

Required - 

  • 3 years of relevant experience.
     

Preferred - 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, humanities, communication, library science or other discipline that requires superior organization, analytical and writing skills.
