The Position:

Vital Strategies is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of part-time Communication Associate (20 hours weekly) to support the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).  The Communication Associate will work closely with our Senior Communication Manager to provide communication support to market Vital Strategies’ Road Safety program and support our in-country teams.  This is a remote working position and can be based in the United States or possibly outside the United States with the ability to work in the EST time zone (+/- 3 hours). Vital Strategies can hire in the following states:  California, Colorado, D.C., Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Washington. 

Applicants in the U.S. must possess valid work authorization to work in the U.S. at the time of hire.  Applicants outside the U.S. must possess valid work authorization to work in their country of residence.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review regional weekly reports and compile updates for bi-weekly communication report to partners, including key event updates, media coverage highlights, and social media content;
  • Edit monthly road safety reports to the donor;
  • Edit monthly program newsletter for partners and stakeholders;
  • Draft regional program op-eds in collaboration with local teams and Vital’s PR team, as needed;
  • Draft social media text for regional campaigns;
  • Draft content for Vital Strategies’ blog, including Q&As and location features;
  • Assist with program updates for the Vital Strategies website and posts for Vital Strategies’ social media channels; including scanning for media articles that can be shared on social media with comment from Vital;
  • Develop brief for photography for use by country teams based on Vital’s ethical photography guidelines;
  • Assist with webinar development as needed to review and edit slide decks;
  • Support additional communication-related activities, as needed.



Education and Degree - 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a preferred communication-related major.

Skills and Abilities - 

  • Exceptional editing and writing skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Organized, responsible and has capacity to work independently with excellent attention to detail;
  • Interested in and has understanding of public health issues, ideally road safety or urban development;
  • Interested in and has understanding of digital and social media;
  • Motivated;
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Experience with Mailchimp a plus.



Required - 

  • At least three years of relevant job-related experience.

Preferred - 

  • Experience of working in an international team environment.
