Vital Strategies is a US-based international public health organization working in more than 70 countries to address important and challenging health issues. We develop and oversee programs to strengthen public health systems and address leading causes of morbidity and mortality, providing expertise in project implementation and management, strategic communications, epidemiology and surveillance, and other core public health capacities.

Resolve to Save Lives is a global health initiative of Vital Strategies that aims to save millions of lives by reducing preventable deaths from cardiovascular disease and by preventing infectious disease epidemics. Since September 2017, the Resolve to Save Lives Cardiovascular and Prevent Epidemics teams have been working closely with governments, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, academic and other partners in a number of low- and middle-income countries to strengthen national capacity to prevent, detect and respond to epidemic threats and improve cardiovascular health. Overall Role:

Reporting to the Senior Media Strategist, the Communications Associate provides support for all aspects of external communication activities for the Resolve to Save Lives initiative. S/he will wear a variety of hats, taking on projects independently or supporting team objectives. This position will work closely with the team, supporting Resolve’s President and CEO. Highly organized and creative, the Communications Associate will help the team meet deadlines, assess outcomes and think outside the box.

Specific duties:

  • Provide support for the media team, including but not limited to press inbox triage, daily media prep packets and summaries, research and background work, project management, copy editing and proofreading support, writing first drafts of various communications products, and event planning monitor the press inbox and triage requests for Resolve to Save Lives subject matter experts
  • Track non-media external communications activities, such as speeches and high-profile presentations, liaise with event organizers and prepare materials
  • Analyze media team impact and share analytics with senior staff
  • Support press conference execution, including logistics and content

Skills and qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication skills
  • ‚ÄčAt least 3 years of job-related experience in journalism, marketing communications and/or public relations
  • Academic qualifications – Bachelor’s in communications or related field
  • Public health experience would be an advantage
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in an international team environment with solid interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent judgement, strategic thinker, strong initiative
  • Strong oral and written proficiencies in English
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Enthusiasm for the Resolve to Save Lives mission
