Resolve to Save Lives is a global health initiative of Vital Strategies that since 2017 has been working closely with governments, international organizations, community organizations, academic and other partners in more than 40 countries to save millions of lives by reducing preventable deaths from cardiovascular disease and strengthening capacity to prevent, detect and respond to epidemic threats. At Resolve to Save Lives, an initiative of Vital Strategies, we value learning and professional development, and the contributions of a diverse workforce. We believe it is important to mentor future leaders from underrepresented groups who will grow personally and professionally and create impact in the public health sector. Interns at Resolve to Save Lives will have the chance to develop skills and contribute to our initiatives through engaging, meaningful work assignments that can help jump start their career in public health.

The Office of the President directly supports Dr. Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL), former Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and former Commissioner of the New York City Health Department. The intern will report to Robynn Cheng Leidig, Manager of Strategic Initiatives, and assignments will be mutually agreed upon.

Potential projects and responsibilities include:

  1. Health disparities. Research issues related to health disparities, including access to health, Universal Health Coverage, primary health care, quality of care, and value of care, and identify opportunities to incorporate into Resolve’s existing or future work.
  2. Policy. Research and develop policy ideas to address racial disparities in COVID-19 testing, treatment, contact tracing, and supportive isolation/ quarantine.
  3. Partnerships. Develop a list of trusted community organizations, advocacy partners, and influencers working to address racial disparities in the US. Assist in developing and compiling background materials for high-level calls with key partners.
  4. Communications: contribute to a variety of communications projects, including social media support, synthesizing calls with media, updating the website, developing presentations, contributing to OpEds and publications, etc.
  5. Epidemiology: analyze data, synthesize findings, and contribute to a COVID-19 science insight.
  6. Trainings. Research, organize, and partake in professional development opportunities. Compile of list of recommended individual training opportunities for staff to use towards professional development funds.
  7. Shape internship program/ workforce development. Organize and identify opportunities for fellow interns to share learnings, present their work to staff, and provide feedback to the organization. Help shape the future of the RTSL internship program!

  • Preferred skills: interest in public health and/or public policy, with a focus on the US

Internship Details:

  • Up to 25 hours a week 
  • January through May 2021 with the possible option to renew, based on mutual agreement 
  • Internship will be based out of the New York office but will be remote while the office remains closed
