The Organics Associate assists in all aspects of running a Garden-Ville bulk sales site. This position will use heavy equipment to transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes to successive areas of production as well as load outbound trucks with material. This position will also safely operate various pieces of production equipment and run the POS system, answer phone calls, process orders, and assist with customer sales as needed.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
Ensure customers get loaded with bulk and bagged material in a timely manner.
Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment involved in production and transport of bulk and bagged material including but not limited to baggers, screeners, loader operators, hoppers, forklifts.
Maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance and repair tasks such as making simple adjustments, and lubricating equipment and communicate to supervisor when equipment is in need of maintenance.
Assist with verifying inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, as scheduled.
Assist scale house customers and turn in all paperwork to the Site Manager in a timely manner.
Answer store phones in a professional and timely manner.
Review and respond to personal voicemails and e-mails within a timely manner.
Perform production site maintenance such as measuring bulk pile temperatures, turning piles, routine equipment maintenance, and pad maintenance.
Inspect and measure material to ensure the customers and drivers receive the accurate products.
Follow direction of the Production Manager and Site Manager to produce sufficient material in a timely manner.
Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive and process cash or credit payment using
the point of sale (POS) system.
Process merchandise returns and exchanges with the approval of the Site Manager.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
Comply with company safety policies and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
May work with a maintenance crew or as a laborer when not operating equipment.
Train others on the proper operation of a front-end loader or other related equipment.
Assess work areas to ensure that areas are clear and will not harm equipment or other personnel.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Able to read and interpret documents such as a Vehicle Condition Reports (VCR), accident reporting and safety rules and procedures, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and other paperwork used in operations;
The successful completion of training and/or safety courses specific to the job and to the equipment operated within 90 days of employment.
Basic math skills;
Ability to work overtime when needed.
Ability to work at other locations, possibly out of town, when needed.
Ability to follow instructions;
Ability to learn and use the point of sale (POS) system;
Ability to communicate effectively in English with co-workers and customers; and
Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, safety rules, short correspondence, and memos.
