Position Summary

Relief International is seeking an exceptional Head of Communications to drive our strategy to increase RI’s visibility and brand in key markets. Overseeing a team of three, you will lead the generation of content to inspire and influence support through web content, social media and print.

This is a new role for the organisation, focused on developing a long term strategic vision and breaking this down into a work plan to be delivered by the team, underpinned by our key themes of Economic Opportunity, Education, Heath & Nutrition and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.

A high percentage of Relief International’s communications support our fundraising activity – it’s important that the post holder understands how to write for various audiences and can lead content development that drives engagement, articulates the need for financial support and gathers public interest.

We are looking for an experienced and innovative communications and marketing expert, who can demonstrate an understanding of the development and humanitarian aid sector, with expertise of leading integrated multi-channel communications.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead on the delivery of Relief International’s communications strategy, encompassing the website, social media platforms, e-newsletters and other digital/print communication channels.
  • Coordinate the proactive creation and production of timely campaigns that align with RI’s operational priorities and public interest.
  • Lead the two main functions of RI’s communications activity – 1) driving private sector income/public support and 2) ensuring RI has a strong brand presence with external audiences.

Safeguarding

  • Uphold and promote RI’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding and safety of the vulnerable communities we serve.
  • Consistent with RI’s safeguarding and protection policies, ensure your job-related activity and practice is compliant with safeguarding standards.
  • Ensure that your behaviour inside and outside of work promotes the values outlined with RI’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies
  • Remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures.

 

Experience and skills required for the role

  • Experienced marketing and communications professional with expertise of leading and managing a strategic communications function, translating creative plans into objectives and deliverables.
  • Significant knowledge and expertise of effective online and non-traditional media channels, including digital and social media.
  • A storyteller with visual flair and exceptional written abilities, providing proofreading to the wider team while generating your own high-level, compelling content.
  • Ability to turn complex technical information into effective news, promotional materials and digital content.
