Trinity Metro has an immediate opening for a Director of Maintenance. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall efficient operations of our fleet, including supervision of maintenance employees, bus fleet maintenance and repairs, and ensuring a safety-focused work environment. The incumbent will organize and develop programs, resources and activities through creative and strategic planning in the maintenance of bus, and automotive fleet maintenance in Trinity Metro’s Maintenance Division. The incumbent manages all activities of the Maintenance department to provide safe, clean, and reliable vehicles. The incumbent performs managerial and supervisory work under the general direction of the Operations General Manager. The incumbent is allowed considerable discretion to support the operational mission of Trinity Metro. The incumbent is responsible for improving fleet reliability, supervising union and non-union personnel, planning and administering the budget, planning maintenance schedules, and ensuring the safety of maintenance operations.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates with upper management and works independently on establishing departmental goals and objectives; establishes plans, processes, and procedures to ensure goal achievement.
  • Establishes and monitors productivity and quality control standards to include reliability, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Directs and oversees the activities of personnel engaged in bus, and automotive fleet maintenance to include, electronic service, body/paint repair, and servicing to ensure all repair and maintenance work is performed in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
  • Oversees the planning and scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity, while effectively managing the division’s budget. Monitors operational performance and efficiency and takes action to redirect activities as appropriate for improvement of efficiencies and service delivery. Controls maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control and outsourcing of repairs.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates repair and maintenance of buses, vehicles, and equipment used in transit operations; maintains parts inventory necessary to accomplish vehicle repairs; physically inspects Trinity Metro maintenance shops for maintenance and/or repair needs.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of engine, HVAC, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to manage advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions of heavy equipment and vehicles used by Trinity Metro.
  • Develops and submits various capital projects including vehicle replacement, and other projects to maintain a good state of repair for Trinity Metro assets. Develops specifications for and recommends the purchase of new buses, automotive, shop and vehicle equipment, tools, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for these purchases.
  • Prepares and administers the annual departmental budget. Estimates all costs, analyses, and manages expenditures.
  • Makes presentations to various leadership staff.
  • Develops and evaluates policies and procedures for the division.
  • Reviews departmental status reports, etc. Prepares a variety of documents and reports for General Manager and Executive leadership review.
  • Manages and supervises a staff of professional, administrative, and bargaining unit personnel which includes recruiting, training, disciplining, counseling, and evaluating performance. Maintains personnel work schedules and develops quality standards.
  • Promotes and manages activities of established safety, training and quality assurance programs.
  • Recommends and advises on changes to the labor agreement during negotiations; administers and follows the labor agreement.
  • Attends community, trade, professional organization, etc. meetings. Actively participate on committees with transportation organizations (i.e. APTA, SWTA, etc).
  • Maintains confidential information.
  • Participates in the Trinity Metro community activities to promote transit on/off duty hours.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Industrial Management, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field. Additional course work or training in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) training is preferred.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in the transit industry, equipment management, or repair business including vehicle maintenance and repair work, lead man or specialist work, and supervisory and administrative work.
