Position Summary:

The Assistant Football Coach is a field coaching position. The employee also assists the head coach with scouting reports, practice preparation, and game planning. Responsible for recruiting designated recruiting area which may include in state and out of state areas. This is a full time, 12-month position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In Season: Coach the football team on the field; mentor and hold meetings – academic, character, leadership, and position; assist the head coach with scouting reports and game plans.
  • Off Season: Continue to mentor the football team; assist with quality control reports and off-season preparation; responsible for on and off campus recruiting.
  • Assist the Head Coach with recruiting, administration, and on field instruction of the Football program and adhering to all university, CAA Conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Analyze game video; help formulate game and training strategies; and instruct student- athletes on the techniques of Football.
  • Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Assist in promoting, organizing and running camps and aid in fundraising efforts to improve the Football program and athletic department.
  • Communicate and at times, work closely with other departments on campus such as academic advising, residence life, admissions, sports information, campus recreation, compliance, athletic training, and strength and conditioning.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Other job-related duties, activities and responsibilities may change or be assigned at any time, with or without notice.
  • Exemplify the goals, values, and objectives of the program, in the performance of all duties.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security, including, but not limited to FERPA and other state and federal guidelines.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s degree desired.
  • At least 2 years of college Defensive coaching experience with proven recruiting at the NCAA Division I level desired.
  • Experience competing as a NCAA Division I Football athlete desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with student athletes, and others, through both oral and written channels.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills are required.
  • Ability to teach the game of Football at a high level and within a university setting.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Applications, standard methods of digital communication, and common social media platforms
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with student athletes, parents, administrative staff, opposing coaches and players, game officials, and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work regular evening or weekend hours; and travel, including overnight stays.
