At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Autonomy Software Group Lead to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- The Autonomy Software Group houses Aurora’s expertise in designing and delivering software for autonomous systems, from small-UAS, full-scale aircraft prototypes, and production autonomous vehicles.
- Efforts include fundamental research programs, prototype programs to demonstrate new autonomy concepts in real flight, and efforts to mature product roadmaps to Boeing-scale.
- The ideal candidate can contribute broadly to the complete autonomy development process with research, prototype, and product focuses.
- Lead Technically by Example: Excel at conceptualizing and making autonomous systems with excellent humans and autonomy.
- Lead Others: Build a great team of humans and autonomy engineers and researchers
- Lead Aurora’s Technical Vision: Provide oversight and guidance to all autonomy programs and proposal efforts.
- Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder).
- M.S. in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical/computer science engineering with an aerospace controls emphasis, or equivalent.
- Five+ years of experience designing and deploying autonomy systems.
- Demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment with excellent English written and oral communications skills. The best measure of an effective manager is a high--performing team that consistently demonstrates esprit de corps.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to positively motivate others are essential attributes.
- Ability to apply trajectory, route, and mission planning algorithms. Focused expertise in at least one of these areas.
- Ability to lead software development teams that balance cutting-edge innovation with the rigors of full-scale system deployment in aerospace environments.
- Ability to oversee setup, utilization, and maintenance of simulation and hardware-in-the-loop environments to develop, validate, and implement algorithms and software for real-time flight systems.
- Knowledge of state of the art in AI/ML, optimization and model-based design.
- Ability to formulate and communicate a complete technology roadmap to maximize impact of autonomy technology on the aerospace industry over the next decade.
- Ability to formulate certification plan for new autonomy technology.
- Ability to apply AI/ML onto real hardware systems.
- Ability to develop and deploy image-processing, embedded systems, ROS, OMS, or FACE open-systems architectures.
- Ability to develop and execute hardware test plan.
- Knowledge of commercial and military and UAV operations.

- Not a remote position, must be able to commute on-site weekly.
