Job Purpose:

The Project Manager, Organizational Strategic Initiatives plays a central role in advancing the Global Enterprise Integration (GEI) Division’s mandate by owning and managing enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen organizational operations, systems, and ways of working. The role will project manage defined workstreams related to program operations, organizational operations, grants and contracts management, compliance coordination, global operating model, and cross-functional organizational initiatives.

Reporting to the Vice President, Program Operations and Strategic Initiatives, the Manager translates strategic priorities into executable projects, coordinates across divisions, and ensures timely delivery of high-quality outputs. The role also supervises at least one direct report (Associate) and contributes to building GEI’s operational capacity as a newly established Division.

This is a full-time, New York City-based role, where candidates are expected to adhere to a hybrid (2-days per week in office) schedule. Vital Strategies offers highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 USD, depending on experience and qualifications. The candidate must have authorization to work legally in the US at the time of hiring.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizational Strategic Initiative Project Management - 

· Own and manage assigned organization-wide initiatives from planning through execution, including timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination, e.g. new country registration activities, manage various analyses of business practices within Vital Strategies (e.g. efficiencies, cost-benefit, etc.)

· Serve as project manager for cross-functional workstreams related to operations, compliance processes, business improvement, and organizational operating models.

· Identify risks, dependencies, and resource needs; proactively escalate issues and propose solutions.

Cross-Functional Coordination and Communication - 

· Serve as a coordination point among GEI with all other divisions (e.g. Finance and Administration, Legal, Communications and Program teams, Country Office teams)

· Diffuse innovations, best practices, lessons learned across organization to support development of communication and change management

· Ensure clear documentation and knowledge capture to support sustainability and institutional learning.

Supervision and Team Development - 

· Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and work prioritization for at least one direct report (Associate, Strategic Initiatives).

· Support professional development and effective performance through clear expectations and feedback.

Technology and AI-Enabled Process Improvement - 

· Leverage project planning and management tools, collaboration platforms, and organizational systems to support efficient execution.

· Identify opportunities to use AI and technology-enabled tools to improve workflows, documentation, and internal processes.

· Promote adoption of new tools and ways of working within GEI initiatives.

Other Responsibilities - 

· Perform other duties as assigned in support of GEI and organizational priorities.

Qualifications:

Education and Degree - 

· Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred

Experience:

Required - 

· Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience.

· Experience managing complex projects or initiatives in the global health sector, nonprofit, or other public health sectors, or international development settings.

· Knowledge of global health community – key stakeholders, institutions, systems, etc., particularly in lower-and-middle income countries

Preferred -

· Experience creating, implementing and/or assessing organizational/business process improvements within the nonprofit sector

· Prior training, certification and application of business improvement methodologies, e.g. 6 Sigma, Lean or others

· Experience supervising or mentoring staff and interns

· Experience of tracking the deliverables of independent contractors

· Experience with grants and contracts management or compliance-related initiatives.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

· Ability to travel occasionally (less than 20%).
