Overall Role

Resolve to Save Lives seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for providing strategic direction in all matters related to the assessment of and planning for HR activities and systems for a global organization. S/he will have experience in leadership and a breadth of knowledge in all of the functional areas of HR with a willingness to integrate these functions with the mission, vision, and core values of Resolve to Save Lives. After four years of rapid expansion, Resolve to Save Lives has announced plans to become a fully independent, global, U.S.-based and registered nonprofit organization, effective June 2022. The Director of Human Resources will be the key business level leader responsible for building and supporting HR initiatives, processes, procedures, programs, and policies across our headquarters and country offices in Africa and Asia. The ideal candidate will have experience with establishing the HR infrastructure of a new entity and an eagerness to foster internal culture while building a strong HR team. This full-time position is remote with the incumbent expected to attend periodic meetings in New York City beginning in January 2022.

Key Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead formalizing and building Resolve’s global Human Resources department, starting with the transition phase
  • Provide strategic leadership to develop a robust workforce plan for the long-term future of RTSL; maximize employee engagement and contribution while driving workforce excellence and productivity
  • Procure and manage necessary HR infrastructure to meet the needs of the new entity, including integration and change management of new tools and HRIS systems

Operational Management

  • Oversee and ensure best practices for all global human resources functions and programs, including
    • Compensation Structure and Benefits
    • Talent Acquisition
    • Employee Engagement
    • Employee Health and Workers Compensation
    • Federal and State Labor and Employment Law Compliance
    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness, and
    • Workforce Planning and Organizational Development, and
    • Staff Development
  • Establish workplace policies, including anti-harassment and non-discrimination, safety and health, code of conduct, and an employee handbook; lead dissemination and training of these materials and policies
  • Develop and execute benefits transition plan; select benefits broker and work in conjunction with the Senior Management Team to design a comprehensive benefits package for all employees
  • Collaborate with finance and operations functions to select systems for payroll and benefits administration, employee database, and recruitment tracking

Recruitment and Talent Management

  • Ensure the development of a recruitment strategy to attract, motivate, develop, and retain a diverse staff; stay current on trends affecting the talent pipeline
  • Formalize the on-boarding process for new and transitioning employees, including welcome and explanation of benefits, completion of paperwork, enrollments, systems training, and introduction to relevant departments
  • Develop and lead the annual performance measurement and evaluation process; enact best practices and monitor effectiveness of the methodology
  • Create an employee development and recognition program


  • Foster Resolve’s organizational culture in partnership with the Senior Management Team; lead employee relations programs to establish a positive employee-employer relationship and promote a high level of employee engagement
  • Shape and monitor programs and activities to cultivate an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Serve as a resource to supervisors on issues related to staff performance, compliance with policies, procedures, conflict management, and best practices

Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, psychology, public health administration, business administration, or other relevant field; advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Fifteen years or more in an HR leadership role, with experience in global HR specifically
  • Proven track record of planning, implementation and management of HR systems; experience leveraging technology to enhance and measure the results of HR programs
  • Knowledge of local (NY) labor laws and aptitude to learn international labor laws in countries where Resolve operates
  • Highly effective in working with individuals and teams with strong problem-solving and conflict resolution capabilities
  • Effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled and comfortable with navigating change management and organizational development
  • Ability to address complex and sensitive issues with confidentiality, sound judgment, and the highest standards of professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures
  • Able to work in US East Coast standard business hours
