Position Summary:

Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law seeks Adjunct Instructors for the following subject areas: Federal Courts, Bankruptcy Law, Election Law, State Administrative Law, Trial Advocacy, and Legal Research & Writing.

Adjunct instructors are part-time appointments and report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Adjunct LRW instructors teach ~15 students each semester in coordination with the Director of Legal Research & Writing. Adjunct Trial Advocacy instructors teach 12 students each semester in coordination with the Director of Trial Advocacy. Adjunct instructors in elective courses generally teach no more than 25 students. All adjunct appointees must have excellent academic credentials and demonstrated skill in teaching and mentoring students, as well as a background that will contribute to excellence through institutional diversity.  All Campbell University faculty are expected to support each of the five distinctives as set forth below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Cooperate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Trial Advocacy, and Director of Legal Research & Writing (as the case may be) to develop, manage, and implement a rigorous course curriculum based on clear learning objectives related to practice and theory
  • Administer tests, assignments, and other exercises that measure competency and/or performance relative to the course learning objectives
  • Maintain effective and timely communications with students and staff at all times
  • Provide students with individual feedback on assessments
  • Administer exams according to Law School guidelines
  • Complete student record keeping and submit grades in a timely and accurate manner
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, and staff meetings as requested
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell Law School and Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX and FERPA guidelines
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience: 

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Minimum two years’ legal practice experience.
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skill in law practice or judicial clerkship
  • Ability to teach and mentor students
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated tact, positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials, and outside constituencies
  • Technological proficiency
  • Work independently and function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
  • Exercise independent judgment as necessary
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work with the Christian mission of Campbell University
