Position:                     Circulation Assistant

Department:               Wiggins Memorial Library

Status:                        Full Time

Position Summary:

Maintains circulation desk during evening and weekend hours; assists in the circulation of library materials; interacts with students, faculty and other patrons; collects fees, fines, etc.; monitors copiers; directs patrons to appropriate service areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open and close library on weekends
  • Work afternoon and evening shifts Monday through Wednesday
  • Circulate library materials using automated library system
  • Assist in calculation and collection of fines and forwarding of unpaid fines to Business Office
  • Shelve, shelf read, shift, and inventory book collection as needed
  • Assist in the physical processing of newly cataloged materials
  • Check all newly processed or returned books before shelving
  • Collect money from fines, and issue of FOL cards and guest cards
  • Supervise student workers
  • Monitor library photocopiers
  • Assist with Interlibrary Loan processing
  • Assist with reserves processing
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of Access Services
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal mandates
  • Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Education/Experience: 

  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate degree or baccalaureate degree preferred.
  • Supervisory or management experience with student workers preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector is also desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Physical ability to push book carts and shift books
  • Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and common methods of digital communication such as web conferencing, web/text/ chat platforms
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Ability to work regular evening or weekend hours
