At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Staff Human Systems Engineer to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
-Work with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, including experts in human factors, autonomy, robotics, flight controls, aerodynamics, structures, and flight testing and to develop user interfaces for human-autonomy, human-computer, and human-robot interaction. User interfaces may be graphical, aural, tactile, speech-based, or more likely some combination therein.
-Apply a human-centered design approach to current and future research and development programs
-Apply expertise in knowledge elicitation, cognitive task analyses, systems engineering (especially requirements development), user interface design, human subjects testing, procedure development, and training to support the development of new interface systems and methodologies.
-Define and justify the allocation of tasks between the human and the autonomy system to ensure overall system performance with respect to autonomy capabilities, human trust, human performance, human situational awareness, and overall system safety.
-Translate user needs and use cases into intuitive cross-channel user interface designs for our desktop and mobile/tablet-based applications.
-Develop designs, software, and sensor requirements for innovative user interfaces, potentially including novel interface modalities (e.g. augmented reality, speech interaction) for human interaction with robotics and autonomous systems.
-Develop wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes for testing and demonstration to team using prototype technologies such as Sketch, Invision, InDesign, Figma, etc.
-Support software architecture definition for those systems, potentially including software implementation in languages such as C++, Java, QT, and others for Android, iOS, Windows, or Linux.
-Lead or support the generation of materials for customer reports and business development
-Lead or support the generation of materials for customer briefings and business development
-Lead or support proposal writing in support of new business
-Support the group lead in defining and refining group processes
-Must be a US Person
-Master’s degree or better in Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Systems Engineering, or other related fields.
-Advanced experience applying user-centered design principles to relevant aerospace and autonomy problems. Advanced experience conceiving and documenting UI/UX solutions through user flows, storyboards, wireframes, personas, prototypes, test cases, or written specifications and user stories.
-Familiarity with industry design tools such as Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, Visio, Axure, or Figma.
-Solid visual design understanding with an awareness of the impact of typography, layout and composition, color theory, grid systems and use of photography, and data visualization and representation.
-Technical background in human factors, user interface design, autonomous systems, robotics, human-computer interaction, and/or machine learning.
-3 years of demonstrated experience developing complex human-autonomy collaborative systems.
-Demonstrated experience of success in a highly collaborative environment with excellent English written and oral communications skills
-M.S. or PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Digital Media or other related fields.
-5+ years of demonstrated experience developing complex human-in-the-loop systems.
-Experience in software architecting and software implementation. Experience with Java, iOS, and Android are all desirable. Advanced experienced in the conceptual design and scoping of human-autonomy systems, including the allocation of tasks between the human and the autonomy and the specific of autonomy algorithms that are useful and relevant.
-Experience with standard systems engineering practices (requirements definition, risk identification and management, fault tree generation, FMECA, etc.
Physical Requirements
-Occasionally required to work non-business hours to support experiments (testing, experiments, demonstration, or other activities) as well as travel to customer sites.
-Candidates may be expected to travel up to 25% of their time.
