The Clinical Practice Excellence department is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer with experience supporting reports/dashboards built in Business Intelligence tools like SSRS, Tableau, etc. and providing relevant timely information to decision makers throughout the institution.  This individual will create, modify, adapt, monitor, document, and evaluate clinical reports, programs and patient support services, analyze provider productivity, participate in the design and implementation of integrated solutions for user reports, and make recommendations for improvement.  Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel PowerPivot, MS SQL Server and SQL Server Reporting Services is preferred.

Responsibilities of this position include:

·Building, testing, and documenting databases, reports, dashboards, tables, etc. using MS Access, Excel, and SQL Server Reporting Services.

·Experience with user driven reporting tools like Tableu is preferred.

·Collecting and interpreting data from a variety of sources to prepare reports and analyses.

·Formulating recommendations based on analysis of the data

·Partnering on analyses with medical and operational personnel at all levels throughout the institution as required to develop, implement and maintain performance goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.  Knowledge of clinical business processes and process improvement strategies preferred.

Under indirect supervision, prepares, compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reports financial, operations, and clinical data from a relational database and from other sources to produce innovative reports, dashboards and visualization solutions for a variety of complex problems. Gathers information from users, defines work problems, and plans projects to enable analysts and programmers to develop required systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Guides users in formulating requirements; advises on alternatives and on the implications of new or revised computer systems/applications technology.
  2. Analyzes user project proposals, identifies omissions and errors in requirements, and conducts feasibility studies; recommends optimum approach and develops system design for approved projects.
  3. Develops new and maintains existing complex systems and subsystems, such as data load processing routines, in which transactions are automatically processed through the full system of records; ensures reliability of cross-university applications.
  4. Informally arbitrates between system users when conflicts arise.
  5. Uses all phases of system analysis concepts, techniques, and methods; knowledge of available system software, computer equipment, and the regulations, structure, techniques, and management practices of one or more subject areas to design complex systems or subsystems.
  6. Reviews design, analysis, and code for quality and adherence to standards.
  7. Prepares and gives presentations to user management.
  8. Provides on-call support and problem resolution for computer applications.
  9. May serve as lead analyst in a design subgroup, directing and integrating the work of analysts, each responsible for several programs.
  10. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  11. Designs and develops clinical and operational reports, dashboards and visualizations for end users across the UNM Health System.
  12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified OR Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours with at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Verification of education and licensure will be required if selected for hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record data and billing data.
  • Experience with Microsoft reporting tools like SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Business Objects, Access and Excel.
  • Experience with visualization tools like Tableau.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of relevant alternative computer systems, applications, and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate client informational needs and to determine appropriate alternative solutions.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment.
  • Ability to develop and/or modify and adapt systems, hardware configurations, and programs to meet individually specified needs.
  • Conflict resolution and/or mediation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information systems proposals, and to evaluate and develop alternative implementation plans.
  • Knowledge of computer systems analysis and design concepts, methods, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of computer flow charts and of programming logic and software code.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret end user information requirements, and to develop appropriate systems and/or applications solutions.
  • Knowledge of information flow and management environments within area of operational specialty.
  • Ability to plan, design, coordinate installation, test, and modify complex systems and subsystems.
  • Ability to assess and maintain quality of programming structure, design, and coding.
  • Ability to specify and develop computer programs, reports and dashboards using a range of programming languages.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, is required.
  • Must provide proof of varicella & MMR immunity or obtain vaccinations within 90 days of employment.
  • Must obtain annual influenza vaccination.
  • If this position is assigned to a clinical area, successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-placement medical evaluation/health screen.  Required N-95 mask fitting, testing, vaccinations to include annual TST, Tdap, and Hepatitis B will be determined based on location and nature of position.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
