Coordination:   Operations team and Health, Nutrition, and WASH Technical     Coordinators

Location:   40% Based in Khartoum and 20% BN, 20% ND, and 20% in Aljazirah, Sudan

SUMMARY :

The GBV and Protection Coordinator will provide technical leadership to GBV & Protection and helps it grow through mobilizing resources and ensuring high standard in the implementation of protection and GBV funded projects. He/She will be responsible for leading the GBV and Protection activities and team at the country office while working collaboratively with the RI program teams, the Protection cluster, the GBV sub cluster, the federal and  state ministries and social welfare to ensure quality implementation of protection and GBV activities and  support GBV mainstreaming and Protection across all activities being implemented throughout RI project sites. She/he will build capacity of staff,  provide technical support and conduct relevant research, and analysis, support supervision visits, write reports, and participate in proposal development and facilitate  training activities which  aim at providing information and knowledge base and methodologies to national counterparts, planners, policymakers, program managers, and service providers. This position is based in North Darfur with travels to Blue Nile, Khartoum, Port Sudan, and Al Jazirah states, and will be reporting to the DCD Programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Roles & Responsibilities:

  •         Contribute to the development of RI’s country strategy which should have a standalone Protection/ GBV sector.
  •         Establish a robust Protection and GBV sector in RI Sudan and ensure the sector has strong linkage with other RI sectors.  
  •         Support the implementation of protection and GBV prevention and response activities.  
  •         Ensure that quality and standard in the provision of cases management including psychosocial support.   
  •       Identify the training needs of national partners and staff on GBV and Protection and develop a plan for their capacity building through formal training, mentorship, and coaching.
  •         Ensure staff capacity in case management, including psychosocial support is up the recommended standard.
  •         Provide on job training to seconded and RI staff in health facilities on topics related to GBV and Protection.
  •     Support operational research, assessments, and situation analysis to identify challenges of GBV and Protection and appropriate measures for improvement within RI operational sites.
  •         Provide technical guidance and support to all project staff on all GBV and protection-related issues including PSS.
  •       Develop, implement, and monitor community-based protection strategies and ensure systematic application and integration of participatory and community-based approaches in protection and solutions planning, programming, and strategies.
  •         Participate in the design and proposal writing processes
  •         Review monthly GBV and Protection data and provide feedback to the project managers.
  •         Work with project staff and ensure that quality protection and GBV reports are submitted to the donors, following RI internal process.    
  •       Support the establishment of feedback and response systems and the incorporation of feedback received from persons of concern into program design and adaptation.
  •         Work with relevant stakeholders to develop strategies to increase quality and access to GBV and protection Services.
  •         Ensure implementation of an effective and efficient referral pathway for GBV and Protection cases.
  •         Support the State Ministries of Health (SMOH) and Social welfare teams in designing and evaluating the provision of GBV and Protection Services.
  • Ensure gender and protection mainstreaming in all RI activities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with project partners, SMOH departments, and stakeholders such as UNFPA.
  • Work with PMs on ensuring the availability of GBV and Protection related supplies including PEP kits
  • Attend the monthly and weekly GBV and Protection TWG and UNFPA meetings and provide feedback to the teams. Participate in the proposal development of SRH components and report writing.

Representation/coordination with external actors

  • Represent RI in protection and GBV cluster coordination meeting and at sector working group meetings, coordination meetings as well during other stakeholder meetings (if relevant), and maintain a positive, continuous and visible presence for RI.
  • Ensure RI’s mandate is shared and explained to Stakeholders
  • Pro-actively liaise and build rapport with local officials, community representatives, UN agencies, and any other relevant stakeholders
  • Attend coordination meetings including GBV and Protection TWG meeting, physically in the state.

Logistics

·   Liaise, as necessary, with the programs, procurement and supply chain, logistics and finance staff to ensure GBV and Protection related items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Social Sciences or Development studies   
  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or Development studies  or Master’s in Gender and development studies
  • Having worked as GBV and Protection Coordinator/Manager in international organizations and in emergency response.
  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience in implementing GBV and Child Protection projects.  
  • Experience in capacity building of staff, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Experience in organization representation and resource mobilization
  • Proven writing skills
  • Good communication skills; fluency in  English is required
  • Understanding of local civil society organizations development.
